Introduction PM Awaas yojana :

There are many people in the country who, even today, are forced to live in mud houses or slums. ‘Pradhanmantri Awas Yojana’ was started on 25 June 2015 by the Prime Minister of the country with the aim of providing permanent houses to all such people.

Under the scheme, the government will construct 4 crore houses to all the eligible citizens who are living  in rural and urban areas. The Central Government has extended the last date of assistance for building houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana till December 31, 2024. Through this scheme, the government provides assistance up to Rs 2.67 lakh to low-income people to build a permanent house. The area of ​​the house should not be more than 200 square meters:

The internal area of ​​the applicant’s house (except walls) should not be more than 200 square meters. In that too, the maximum area limit for EWS (very low income) families has been kept at 30 square meters and for LIG (low income) families, the maximum area has been kept at 60 square meters. Its limit has been fixed at 160 square meters for MIG-I (middle income group) families and 200 square meters for MIG-II (middle income group) families.

The house should be owned in one’s own or spouse’s name only :

The house for the construction, improvement or expansion of which you want help under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, should be in your name or your wife’s name. Or it can be in the name of both husband and wife, or jointly. In that also, if you are in EWS or LIG category and are buying a new house, then its ownership should be in the name of the woman.

There should not be a permanent home in the name of the family, anywhere else :

There should not be any other permanent house in the country in the name of the person applying or his family members. The names of any of his family members should not be there. Only husband, wife and unmarried sons and daughters are included in a family. If any other adult member in the family has also started earning, then even if there is no marriage, he will be considered as a separate family.

Annual income of EWS and LIG should not exceed Rs 6 lakh :

If you fall in the very low income category (Economically Weaker Section), then the annual income of your family should not exceed Rs 3 lakh. If you fall in the lower income category, then your annual income should not be more than Rs 6 lakh.
